По сравнению с предшественником, Mac Pro 2013 года выпуска выглядит совершенно иначе, а внутри содержит комплектующие профессионального уровня. Эксперты зарубежных блогов задались вопросом сборки аналогичного по производительности PC, который бы работал на операционной системе Windows 8.1.
После анализа представленных на рынке комплектующих они собрали компьютер, возможности которого максимально приближены к топовой конфигурации Mac Pro стоимостью $9 599. За эти деньги «маковод» получает 12-ядерный процессор Intel Xeon E5 с частотой 2,7 ГГц (с кешем третьего уровня на 30 Мб), 64 Гб оперативной памяти (4 модуля DDR3 объемом 16 Гб), работающие на частоте 1866 МГц, накопитель на флеш-памяти емкостью 1 Тб и две видеокарты AMD FirePro D700 с 6 Гб памяти GDDR5.
Полученный PC представлен в алюминиевый корпус Lian Li PC-7B. В оснащение машины входит 650-ваттный блок питания Corsair CMPSU-650TX, материнская плата Asus Z9PE-D8, два графических модуля AMD FirePro W9000, процессор Intel Xeon E5-2697 Ivy Bridge, накопитель OCZ RevoDrive 3 X2 и четыре модуля оперативной памяти Kingston Technology. Чтобы все это великолепие работало, а не оставалось кучей железок, добавим лицензию на Windows 8.1 Pro за 200 долларов.
