Apple позиционирует себя как компания, выпускающая полностью законченные продукты – софт, аппаратное обеспечение и сервисы, прозрачно интегрированные в единую экосистему. И хотя большинство программ и служб компании распространяются бесплатно – iLife, iMovie, iBooks, iMessage, Game Center – за некоторые пользователям все же приходится платить. В их число входит офисный пакет iWork, состоящий из приложений Pages, Keynote и Numbers. Для компьютеров Mac эти программы стоят по $19,99 каждое, для iOS — по $9,99 долларов. Полный набор для OS X/iOS обойдется в $89,99.

На конференции WWDC 2013 была анонсирована облачная версия iWork для iCloud, с которой можно работать в браузере на любых настольных и мобильных платформах. Публичная бета-версия офиса появится осенью. Он станет частью онлайн-сервиса iCloud.com, в котором все программы бесплатны – та же участь, по данным источника, ждет и iWork.

Если Apple в самом деле решит сделать iWork бесплатным, это решение можно назвать странным. С одной стороны, компания уже включает в состав OS X мощные приложения, например iPhoto и iMovie, и не берет за них денег. С другой, iWork лидирует в списках платных программ в Mac App Store и App Store.

Закрытое тестирование «облачного» iWork началось в середине июня. Принять в нем участие могут только те, у кого есть активный аккаунт разработчика Apple ID. В состав iWork for iCloud входят те же три приложения — Keynote, Numbers и Pages. Они наделены схожими функциями, что имеются в программах под операционные системы iOS и OS X. Это очень удобно, когда нужно срочно отредактировать определенный документ, а своего компьютера нет под рукой. Единственное: предварительно нужные документы необходимо перенести в удаленное хранилище iCloud.

Как ожидается, онлайн-офис iWork станет доступен осенью, вместе с новой операционной системой iOS 7.
